Splitting Cub - Stuck!

I am in the process of splitting my 1959 Cub Lo-Boy, and have the engine unbolted from the bell housing. The engine is supported by a jack stand, and I am trying to lift and pull the rear back with a large transmission jack on wheels lifting under the drive shaft housing just back of the bell housing. I have tried wiggling the bell housing up and down with the transmission jack, and driving wedges on the jack stand under the rear of the oil pan. But it appears to be stuck on the alignment pin on the right side. How do I separate this?

You did wedge the front axle didn't you?

I have the support pipe for the steering wheel already removed to the side from the drive shaft casting, and the front axle is wedged on both sides. But this alignment pin that's on the right side just above the starter seems to be holding it together. And there doesn't seem to be very good locations to pry the bell housing away from the engine. Do these usually just slide apart or am I doing something wrong?

Splitting usually takes some up and down, side to side movement between the bellhousing and engine to get them to separate.

Yes, the dowel pins can keep the two halves stuck tight! You may need to find some spot near that dowel where you can drive something in to wedge it apart, like a strong scraper blade or chisel, followed by a larger screwdriver or pry bar once you get it started.

Are there two dowel pins? I only see the one on the right side just above the starter? And it is still stuck with a bunch of prying and jacking up and down. I will go take a look for another dowel pin on the left side. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any convenient places to pry on the top of the connection. I can get a little separation on the left side. I will try putting something in the separation there and pry on the other side.

Ok, I found the other dowel pin on the left, and it is loose on that side. I can pry the bell housing and engine apart there by maybe 1/16". But the dowel pin on the right side is still stuck. I have been moving the castings up and down with the jacks and prying them left and right in the gap of the opening where the clutch cover plate came off. And still no give to that one pin. I've thought about removing the starter and going in there on the end of that pin with a drift pin and see if I can tap it out. But its a heck of an angle to fit the drift pin in there. And I am afraid of damaging the bore or the dowel pin.

Squirt a little penetrating oil on that pin.

I have been spraying Blaster PB Penetrating oil on it for the last 4 hours as I pried on it. Now I am starting to look at other solutions to resolve this problem. Are there any other suggestions? Like maybe drilling it out and putting something else in the hole when I put it back together?

Patience, it only takes a slight bind to make them stick tight.

I wouldn't worry about damaging the pin or castings. If a thin cold chisel/ screwdriver/pry bar dents the cast iron a little, you can dress it with a file.

Success! After much prompting from everybody I brought out several more screwdrivers and dressed them up more like a wedge, and got a bigger hammer to drive them in with, and it popped apart! I have it separated about 1/4" now, and I am waiting for my wife, Bertha, to come home from babysitting the granddaughter and help me pull it apart. I invited her to bring the baby with her to help, since she is now 12 years old. Isn't that about the age where she needs to learn how to operate a clutch and mow grass?

Age 10 would be better, but hey, now is as a good as any time to get her started.

I'm not trying to insult you, but did you remember to remove the clutch housing cover on the bottom front of the housing? It's the thin half circle held on with 4 small bolts. It needs to be removed for the flywheel to clear. My apologies for mentioning this, but I have forgotten, and it is a bit emabarssing...
