Leaky Fuel Bowl Assembly

Postby xraycajun » Wed Apr 03, 2019 2:38 pm

My fuel bowl is leaking from the cutoff valve. Not from where the valve enters the assembly, but from where the valve stem enterers the brass fitting. Should I try to tighten the retainer? I'm afraid to damage the housing and/or the valve stem....

There should be packing there that is compressed by the brass nut where the stem enters. Try tightening it. It is possible that the packing is fully compressed, chewed up, or missing entirely. There are threads on how to replace the packing. It's a simple process.

I read on here somewhere that a few wraps of waxed dental floss works for packing. I tried it and it worked great.
So far that's the only use I have found for dental floss on my Cub. But I'm always open to suggestions. :)

Can you post a link to one of the threads on replacing the packing? I can't seem to find one.

Thanks!

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thanks! That was very helpful! I've never seen that packing material before. I can't wait to try that fix.
