Tranny problem

Postby Dusty B » Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:05 pm

My cub lobby will jump out of 3rd gear under load (going up a grade). Does fine all the rest of the time on reasonably level ground! Is there adjustment? Or is it due for internal overhaul?? No problem w/other gears! Dusty B

Dusty,

My first thought is to check the shifter forks for wear, bends, cracks, and/or loose bolt. Second check the end of the gearshift lever for wear and/or a bend. After that, if all is well, it gets more complex and I'll let those with more knowledge and experience shed some light on the problem.

Hope it is an easy fix.

:D Bring it to the Bash and let the guys have fun with it!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Hi,
Below are pics from TM Tractor of the shifter a LoBoy should have, with the bent lever. You could inspect it while you have it off the transmission.
If the parts of it are worn much, it probably needs some repair.
You can see the ball on the bottom of the lever, it should be a round shape. If it is worn, it needs repair.
TM Tractor has a new lever, if needed.

Below is pic of how the transmission and shifter forks should look. The pic is looking from the left side.

The trans has to be in neutral to put the cover on again. :)
