Clutch pedal vibrates
1948 cub. I have new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. When I fully depress the clutch pedal I get a vibration on the pedal. But if I let off the pedal about 2" it stops. I have adjusted the clutch twice with one a small clearance between the throw out bearing and pressure plate and once with a larger clearance. Input Please ..

Sounds like your fingers are different heights or your throw out bearing is missing some pieces.

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
Humm. Leaning toward the throw out bearing Shane. Tell you a funny story. The person who I purchased this tractor from told me that he had just replaced the throw out bearing with a new one. One day I was mowing and all of a sudden the clutch pedal was chadering and vibrating badly. When I got off the tractor I found a peices of 3/8" galvanized water pipe on the mower deck right below the insection hole . Wondering where in the hell did that come from. Well I decided to change out the clutch and pressure plate and when I split the tractor I found that there was no pivot rod for the throw out bearing yoke. That's where the pipe came from...I stead of going to a hardware store and getting a 1/4" rod they decided to wedge a piece of pipe.

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
If that is a hard, noisey vibration, it is probably the outer part of the pressure plate fingers contacting the outer edge of the throw out bearing. Either the fingers are adjusted too low, the throw out bearing is badly worn off, or the clutch pedal is out of adjustment. I would suspect fingers being out of adjustment. If it is a less violent vibration that occurs as soon as you feel it touch the fingers, they are probably not set even.

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
It only does it when the pedal is bottom out. You let off about a1" or 2 it stops.

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
It sounds like the throw out bearing yoke is contacting the fingers or adjusting nuts. You need to set finger height to 1.25". The fingers are set to low now.

Hi,
Below is a post showing how to adjust the pressure plate finger height through the hand hole under the clutch, if you need it. The people on here have said that even a new pressure plate needs the finger height set, after putting it on the flywheel.

Don't push the clutch pedal far enough for a metal to metal noise to happen, it can damage the clutch. With the fingers the right height, you should be able to push the pedal fully down, with no noise.

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
i've got a good one. restoring my '52 cub and i had vibration in the clutch about 1/2 way down. i read the forum and figured it could be a half a dozen things. but when i split the tractor to take off the engine i separated it nice and clean, and then decided to spin the shaft... and there was a 3/4" wobble at the pilot bushing end. it was off center 3/4" so it was 1-1/2" out of round turning around! so that means there's a bend in there somewhere. ordered a new one, no idea how someone got it together like that, 3/4" out of alignment. can't wait for it to go back together with the new straight shaft that will no longer vibrate!!

Re: Clutch pedal vibrates
Thanks to all for your help!! Reajusted the clutch to 1 1/4" ( not 7/8" like the sweet little girl from Steiner 's says) and adjusted the clutch pedal to specs. All is good...no vibration!!
