I picked up this spreader over the weekend, has nice orginal side panels not rusted out like most I see in this area. The question I have was the apperan chain originally blue or black or red? I like to make it look orginal. Also I mite ad, this spreader has
(tst) decals on it! Very nice.
Thanks Brad

Steel chains (apron or otherwise) were generally black.

I think I’ve seen references for the IH-200 apron chains being blue.
Of course, after a few loads, the color won’t matter! Haha!

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story. - Circle of Safety: Y

Re: NICE 100 manure spreader and a question?
That is a nice looking spreader.
I thought that the aprons where the implement blue at least on the earlier ones, if the 200 spreaders are blue the 100 would have been too. I know the rims changed color depending on age. I am just surmising this based on my observations but I think the early ones had blue rims, then Red, then Cream, or is it cream then red? I picked up one a couple years ago, real rough for parts but had real good rims. Those are odd off set rims and hard to find. Any way it had never been repainted and the rims are the implement blue, which I had never heard of. I would have to reconfirm it by going out and rechecking but the hubs are blue, parts of the gears and assemblies under the rear shields are blue, and I believe even the beaters and spreader on the back is blue. I would imagine the apron was blue but I don't remember finding any paint let on it, pretty rusty.
I would like to paint one up in this color scheme with all the blue accents.

I re-found this link to a neat old video on you tube. At the 1;03 mark a 100 spreader comes into view, and it has blue rims, but the beaters do appear to be red.
Just my 2 cents,
Russel Foster

Re: NICE 100 manure spreader and a question?
On a quick look, I couldn't find a paint decision that mentions the 100 (although I think I've seen one before). The initial for the 200 agrees with blue wheels and apron, and cream hubs. They probably went all red during pigment shortages during /after WWII. Change from red to cream wheels was likely (possibly with blue hubs) after the shortage was solved.

Re: NICE 100 manure spreader and a question?
As I have a 200-H I eventually plan to fix up and paint, curiosity got the best of me and I found at least one paint committee decision that covers both the 100 and 200 manure spreaders.

I also found an earlier paint committee decision that lists the paint scheme Jim Becker described, but only for the 200 manure spreader.

Re: NICE 100 manure spreader and a question?
Decision 189 looks like the one I was trying to find but couldn't. 140 is the one I was describing. I didn't check the date but it was probably before the 100 came out. They may have just applied it to the 100 without official instruction from the committee.
