Who Makes the Best Serial Number Plates?

Hi Guys,

Ok, not looking to piss anybody off with a Vendor A's plate is better than Vendor B's plate discussion, but are all the repro Farmall serial number plates the same? The original plates were acid etched to make the letters and number pads be raised up a bit from the background. It looks like all the new repro plates are simply silk screened onto a flat plate. Maybe I'm wrong, it's hard to tell from pics on the computer. Does anyone make repro plates that are acid etched like the originals?

I got one from Nancy L. Diener, 1287 Woodruff Pl., Morgantown, WV 26505 and phone no. 304-599-4027 You send he an old one and she matched it and had the SN engraved by a trophy store.

If the numbers are in good condition, Tim (tst) makes an overlay decal.

Hmmm.....thanks, but neither of those suggestions work for me. My plate is missing, so I don't have the original to copy or put an overlay on. But I know the SN, so I want to make a new plate. This is for my early '39 Farmall A in which the engine number is the tractor serial number. Did a little more digging last night and I got a feeling there's only one manufacturer of the plates, and all the vendors get it from the same place.....so there might not be a "best".

Diener's plates are the best. They are made nearest to the original patterns. Call and talk to them, they might make you one even if you don't have your original.
Plates from other places don't come close to looking "right" usually because of the engraving. Of course I don't believe in repro plates to start with. But if you insist on one, get one done right.

Reviving old thread, but called Nancy yesterday and spoke with her. Getting a plate for my F200, she'd made one for my F100 and they are absolutely amazing. Cost is $85 and well worth it if you're restoring and spent the time on it.
