Hi,
Bob, I see in your pictures above that the alternator is out at the end of the adjustment on the top bracket. There won't be any way to tighten the belt, if it stretches in the future. You would need to remove the hood, and replace the belt then.
You could replace the belt now, with a slightly shorter one, while the hood is off.
I don't know if you have replaced the belts, don't turn the nut at the rear of the fan hub shaft, it can break the casting holding the fan hub.
Use a wrench and turn on the 6 sided place on the shaft, just to the rear of the alt drive pulley. Hold the nut from turning, if needed.
The top bracket looks bent in your picture. I would remove it and hammer it flat where the slot is, so the alt can go fully in towards the engine, on the slot. It could just be the picture making it look bent.
While you have the hood off is a good time to oil the fan hub, if you didn't. It tells how in Cub owner's and operator's manuals.
It can wear the fan hub bearing, or the bearing can seize, if the oil in the hub is low.
The alt plug with the 2 wires is facing out towards the hood, it looks like the wires will hit the hood.
If the alt is a 1 wire alt, it doesn't need the 2 wires in the plug on the side of the alt.
Delco alts the style of yours can be assembled with the rear half facing 1 of 4 ways, so the plug with the 2 wires is facing the direction you need, if you need to use the plug on the side.
I sent you a message, you get to it near the top right of the page.
