Teddy's passing

October 26th, 2021, my best friend Alfred 'Teddy' Mero passed away.....He was 30 years my elder, however, love has no age limits....we were inseparable for 37 years....life wasn't always easy for Teddy and myself....we weren't made of money however, we knew happiness....Teddy was 100% Italian....he belonged to an Italian Catholic church, of which I joined for 28 years and also worked for the priest, who accepted us as normal and I was employed by him for 17 years running the Recreation Center....life got better as years went on for Teddy & I ....in 1998, Teddy suffered a heart attack, I brought him into the hospital that night to only find out his brother Albert, was in the hospital for a heart attack also....both brothers got better and life continued....our church parish had Italian/American Festivals in which I was the right hand man behind the scenes....booking 117 hours a week...
Teddy, now approaching 90 started showing extra care signs...in which I , without a thought, took him under my wing as he did to me 28 years prior....
Ted showed signs, at 94 years old, still living on his own, of failing health...so at that time, I took him into my home and cared for his every need for the next 3 years....he was genuinely happy to be with me and I felt absolutely comfortable taking care of this man...I showered him, clothed him, he loved it when I shaved him....i still got him out and about all the time as much as he was comfortable with....cared for his doctor visits, took care of the bills, put food on the table, plus saw to his every need. It wasn't easy and I had a wonderful woman come in and watch over him one day a week so I could have a little private time to myself.....it was the hardest job I ever did, it socked out all of my energy every day, but you know what?? I loved it and I wouldn't have changed a thing and would do it all over again in a heartbeat !!
Teddy suffered only 1 day in the hospital the last day of his life....his heart was failing and he only had 14% efficiency of his heart...being his proxy, estate manager and power of attorney, I had to make the decision to either let him go or inject him with a drug that would boost his heart....I picked the 1st option...the doctor grabbed me by the arms and told me how satisfied he was with my decision....that it would have killed him instantly,... instead, he went on a morphine drip and Atavan for anxiety..just before he slipped into a comma, I felt a tap on my shoulder....it was Teddy....I told me , "I WILL take care of you"......I felt that statement all the way to my toes....how he meant it was in every aspect of the word...that was the last I heard him speak....he gently slipped into a comma and 6 hours later, he quietly expired....I held his hand and talked to him the whole way....I owed it to him....I LOVED THAT MAN !! He taught me soo much as I did for him....for 37 years....we were lovers, friends, soulmates, best buds.....Teddy died at age 97...this November 29th, will be his 100th heavenly birthday and I know we will both be celebrating each other.... Miss you my Pal !! love, BobFB_IMG_1552553658182[1].jpg
