Super A identification

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. Just purchased a Super A, but the Serial number tag is nowhere to be found. Any other way to determine what year model she might be???

Hello and welcome. I believe the casting numbers/letters are coded so those should give you the year, as long as original. I'm not sure what letters represent which years, but someone will likely be along directly that can help you.

If I understand correctly, the serial # would be stamped on a metal plate on the left seat support, right?

There is no metal plate. Nor am I able to find any numbers stamped directly into the support. What is my next best bet? The engine casting #, perhaps?

My block cast # is 6*9*W, which I interpret as 6/9/1951. Correct? I wonder if the 1951 is indicative of the tractor date as well? Any thoughts, anyone?

Check several of the major castings. They all have date codes. If they agree that's what I'd go with. And 1951 is correct for the W codes on a super A.

There should be a shiny metal plate riveted to the seat support. The tractor's serial number only appears on that plate. It appears nowhere else on the tractor. Once that plate is removed, it's impossible to find the tractor's original serial number, unless the previous owners have kept all the paperwork back to the original purchase.

Every major casting has a date code like that on it. You definitely need to check several castings to get an accurate idea of the age of the tractor, because it's quite common for major castings to have been changed out during the tractor's lifespan due to wear or damage. For example, if there's one casting with a W code, and 10 others with a T code, then the tractor is more likely a 1950.

Look for an engine number. It should be stamped into a machined boss at the top edge of the engine block. It wil be on the right side at the front, more or less below the #1 spark plug. It is partly hidden behind the governor control rod.

This is not the same as the tractor serial number but I might be able to tell you something useful based on the number.
