Seat Time

By the end of this week in Mid-Michigan our high temperature will reach 9 degrees Fahrenheit. Usually that means it will be too cold for significant snow, although the lake-effect snow machine will still howl. I'll have to take advantage of current highs in the teens and cut some wood today in preparation of the coming trend, which is to last into February. I have a heap of 16-foot hardwood logs near the outdoor furnace, but it must be moved closer after my 77 cubic-inch Stihl 460 Motor saw does its thing. No need to go anywhere for needed exercise; it's inherently inevitable for those of us "enjoying" the country life. In a perverted way I still actually enjoy the fight - snow or no snow.

Just changed the oil on my new outboard motor last night after a break-in running and that provides some welcome anticipation of fishing in the coming months. Always good to look forward to the future, as bleak as the present days may seem.

Me as well. I've used the Cub 4 times this season, in eastern PA. 3 days in a row this week alone. It is definitely earning it's keep. I am impressed with the amount of snow it can push. It started this morning at 16 degrees, and still 6 volt. Life is good.

Only 2" of wet and sticky down here, can't plow my gravel drive with the cub for that.... 5" in the previous storm, that one got the cub treatment.

We got about 3" last night into today. High temperature today was 9 with wind chills between -10 to -20 degrees. I didn't go out to clear ours or our neighbors driveways today. Supposed to be down around 0 tonight but the wind is supposed to be less tomorrow so I'll clean up things then.

…another couple of inches last night to clean up this morning, then it hits 40* before plunging to low single digits tomorrow morning.
Big snowstorm forecast for Sunday into Monday, maybe even categorized as a Nor’easter if a coastal low pressure hooks up with the main storm moving across the entire nation.
My mechanic son Aron has been picked up by Copper & Cable to travel to Alabama for storm damage, maintaining a fleet of 30 utility trucks.

Took advantage of the warm temps after cleaning 2-3" of powder off the driveway to flip the cutting edge and do an oil change.

I too took advantage of the warm weather yesterday to plow our driveways and the neighbors driveway. Temperatures were in the mid 20's yesterday so it seemed quite pleasant out compared to what's coming. So far this year we've received around 67" of snow this season.

Our forecast for the weekend and into next week.
Our snow total so far this winter is +/-24”. Gut feeling we are going to have a “rough” February!

Looks like I’ll have some seat time, today! I was hoping this one would skip us but that was wishful thinking. Kubota should fire up without issue.

…that was a long day!
We had somewhere between 16-18” of dry fluffy snow, (and it started up again around 5:00pm this evening).
Cub was struggling with the first pass, so I knew I would need to take diagonal bites to finish the 320’ straight driveway.
Mahindra is 2WD with ag tires so it gets stuck easily, but I was able to use it to scoop and dump further back. The Ariens 1028 snow cannon was a life saver today!
Will finish cleaning up tomorrow.
