Reviving a family cub

Greetings from Lee Maine.

This past winter I adopted my cousins 1954 cub, as they were down sizing in the next stage of life. The engine had been stuck for maybe 8 years, sitting under cover waiting for attention. She had received this tractor from her partner as a birthday gift (she was expecting an engagement ring). They have been together for like 30 years, still no ring.

It came with a carry-all, single plow, harrow, blade, a mower, and a spare engine. They are holding a flail mower for me, that i still need to run down to get. (My family is from Connecticut).

I rebuilt the engine (my fist rebuild), and it was a pleasure. A few stumbles, but I got it sorted.

I replaced the wiring with a bunch of marine grade I had on hand. Im about to replace the seals on the final drives, and put new rims on (also came with the tractor, old ones have salt water, and are corroded).

I intend to test this spare engine at some point.

Ill have some questions to ask, but I'll save them for another thread.

That's a good looking Cub!

Hi,
The Cub looks good in your picture.
I see the Cub has the Depth Adjustment Lever for the Fast Hitch, to the right of the seat.
It looks like there is no Fast Hitch on the Cub.
I don't know why it would have the lever and no Fast Hitch, or if the lever is used for something the way it is.
The Fast Hitch came out on Cubs in later 1954, at Cub serial number 185001.
Beginning at that number the Cubs have a different style hood and grille also.
Below is a picture from the 1955 Cub operator's manual showing the Fast Hitch, you can see the lever to the right of the seat. :)

Hi Glen! It has a fast hitch, just not attached. I removed it temporarily to get to the oil fill and eventually (soon) to replace the final drive gaskets- one is leaking like crazy. I took all the implement hardware in the front too. The plow and the carry-all are fast hitch specific.

Ive been meaning to look up the serial number, so I will do that!
