Is it common to replace the round hood on cubs with the square style hood? Looked at a machine the other day and the serial number placed it at 1950. Looking at another machine and the serial number at 1964. I'm interested in both machines and the sheet metal that comes with the tractors is good, so hood style is not really an issue for me. Just curious

Something to keep in mind is, the front bolsters on all offset Cubs are interchangeable. It is common for them to freeze and break and they get replaced by one from another tractor. The correct serial numbers don’t always get put on the replacement bolsters. If it looks off or it’s a different color it may have been changed and the serial number may not be in the same time frame as the other date codes on the tractor.

It is a more likely scenario that the bolster was replaced with another used bolster. The serial number plate from the donor tractor remained attached and it happened to come from a 1950 tractor. You could verify that by checking a few date codes on the rest of the tractor.

The engine casting code is 360719-R1 which puts the engine around 1964. Believe it is all original with the possible exception of the hood decals.

Touch-Control block number. The date code directly above the part number looks like maybe 8-6-K which would be August 6, 1964.

Agree with Barnyard. If the last character in the number directly above the block part number between the 2 screw heads is the letter K that is the letter code for 1964. That's also the hear that the name change was made from Farmall Cub to International Cub. JMHO Stan

The code on the clutch housing is usually partly behind the clutch pedal.
The code on the last part on the page, the steering gear housing, usually can't be seen with the tractor assembled.
