Opening in hood where starter/choke rods go through

Going to tear down and repaint the Cub this spring/summer. Is there a gromet/whatever it is called that would fit in the opening that the starting and choke rods go through in the hood? Reason asking is the paint gets scraped off there eventually with the metal on metal contact. So thought was a loose fitting rubber piece to slide through to protect them.

I don't think IH ever placed them there, but I remember a post from years ago where someone found some small rubber grommets that would fit in the holes.

One way to keep your throttle linkage from rubbing the paint off when it travels through the dash is by the use of a grommet. It does not look out of place, since the same style (just smaller) are used on the hood for light wires. I used one rubber grommet purchased from TSC for under a buck radio shack has a bag of assorted grommets for under $2. The size I used was 5/8 OD X 5/16 ID.

Worst case you can open the hole up a bit if needed to accept a grommet...

Since the hole for the throttle and choke rods are both SLOTS rather than circular holes, you might find small diameter clear tubing that you can slice lengthwise and "glue" around the internal edge of the hole.

Or slip the tubing over the rods to act as a buffer.
