Not liking the weather so far this spring

Got half of my yard mowed a couple days ago, and finally got time with no rain to finish it today. Cloudy, 44 F, and 12 to 14mph wind. After a couple hours of that I was ready to head to the house. Not too bad when I was going with the wind, but pretty rough when facing it. I had been putting the mowing off while I got other things done, but it had gotten pretty tall.
 
What John said. Weather is kinda crap. Too cold to go to the acreage and work in the shop. State Tech College gym is closed due to the virus and it's to cold to walk in the semi-closed parks.

Only good thing is that the ground temperature is 56 degrees and the asparagus is growing.

Those darn weather forecasters are not planning on letting spring like weather return for a couple more days. It's all their fault.
 
Well, we had snow here in Missouri in April before, so I guess we're blessed it's just a little colder than usual. I remember back in the late '90s having a school function in Washington State Part south of Desoto, in the middle of May, where the temps that day struggled to climb out of the 40s.
 
It's not the spring weather I enjoy but then we really never had winter weather this year either. Only a little bit of snow. Now they're calling for 24" of snow in the UP this week! Crazy weather for sure....

I mowed yesterday too. Weather felt more like the last mow of the season in November rather than April. I was riding around the yard with an extra sweatshirt and Carhartt jacket on. And yes, when riding/facing north, I was wishing I was back inside the house!

Oh, well. This too shall pass. :roll:

My brother and his wife live in Hancock. They were just starting to see little spots of bare ground for the first time in months! :lol:
 
54* , cloudy , 88% humidity . misty . last week we got into the lower 90"s . For the past couple weeks we were cutting the grass twice a week , once things dried up enough . coppersmythe..................
 
24 INCHES??!!! You guys must have done SOMETHING bad to deserve that!! :lol:

Not to add salt to your wounds, but I had already mowed about 8 acres last week, and with the rain that came through yesterday, I suspect it will need it again within the week. Fortunately, it is now sunny, up to almost 70*. Perfect, EXCEPT for all this pollen!! :?

My buddy in Houghton , MI in the UP got 6" quick , he said just down the road in marquette they got 24" . River ice ( leading to the lake ) just broke up two days ago . coppersmythe.......................

Curious. Why are you mowing 8 acres?

I have the acreage fenced and let the neighbor use his 60 plus head of cattle to keep the grass down. Neighbor rotates the cattle through 3 or 4 pastures. The cattle will be on the acreage and his adjacent pasture, one unit, 3 or 4 times during the growing season.

The cattle make it much easier to try and keep the acreage clean. Saves me a lot of mowing time and makes it much easier to spot spray thistles and other weeds.

Actually, I have the 12 volt sprayer set up and almost ready to spray the fence line and some spot spraying. Just waiting for the weather to warm up.
 
For a few years my youngest sister had her horse there, but when she left, and once the fence tape deteriorated, we removed the electric tape and just left the fence posts up. We only have the property to go and veg; it is on the Haw River and is so peaceful out there. We have a golf cart that we can drive around our 20 acres, and enjoy not having to deal with any fences or critters! So we sit, read, listen to music, have an adult beverage (or TWO!)...and mow! And cut up fallen trees...and pick up branches...it's therapeutic!! :wink:
 
I have mowed once; been cooler than normal here for Spring, so grass doesn't need cutting again. Low tonight is forecasted at 30, frost warning issued. A lot of tomato plants will get covered for tonight.
 
28 degrees this morning. Spring flowers don't look so good. Ground is thinly white and more is being added. Half of garden rototilled. Been eating spinach that lived thru the winter. Smile :D and think July. Vern
 
I haven't measured yet, but I think we had 8" overnight with more on the way. Yippee! Seat time plowing!!
Note to self: Stand further back when knocking snow off the tree branches.
 
Northern tier of Missouri and southern Iowa forecasted to get snow tonight. Supposed to be 61 and sunny on Saturday, which starts a stretch of warm, spring-like weather for the next week.

Heavy, wet snow?
 
Stanton, the ground layer was slush. As the temp cooled off overnight it turned into a lighter snow. Not too bad to plow.
