Northerner's Advice to Southerner's

A word of advice to you southerners from the great white north, throw a couple of sleeping bags in your cars back seat just in case you or your wife and kids get stranded for an extended period of time. You are going to read stories of this happening in your area over the next week. Be prepared in case you or your family get stranded for hours or even days before help can get to them.
 
Good advice Ricky!
My wife and I lived in Herkimer, NY for a year with one winter. She had a 20 mile commute to Utica. I made sure there was a sleeping bag, a couple of blankets, granola and/or candy bars, water, jumper cables, flashlights with new batteries, flares, a tow rope, and a few other things just in case she got stuck in a lake effect whiteout.
No cell phones in ‘91-‘92.
 
I believe there were 3 states with pille ups like this that day. The worst I've seen was several years ago about three miles east of me on I-94 that took days to clean up and reopen. Everything was mashed together. Fires. One truck loaded with fiireworks burned setting off quite a display. I drove SW MI for several years and cannot believe the number that won't slow down when visibility and traction goes down. I agree with Rick. At least carry a blanket. tmays: We can't keep up here what started down Texas way and came up here! Vern
 
I worked in the New England states year round many years ago and spent quite a bit of time on the roads in winter. Seen enough to last me the remainder of my life so I'm just planning to stay home!!! LA will probably be cold and wet but at least we should miss the snow and ice this go around. Stay safe and bring on spring! Stan
