New to forum and Cubs

:help: I'm new to Cubs!! My father in law has a 102 with all kinds of attachments but the tractor needs way more tlc than I can give it right now. Found a 127 and was wondering if the attachments would fit it. Can anyone help me out?!
 
Welcome.

Depends on the attachment. Some will directly interchange along with the mounting bracket.

The 102 has lasted 55 years. A complete go thru and it will be around another 55 years.
 
There's a tiller, snow plow, and scraper blade.......... I don't see why they wouldn't fit, just wanted to make sure before I bought the 127
 
The 127 is about 4 years newer than the 102.

Probably cheaper to go thru the 102 than to purchase the 127. And then there is going to be some work required on the 127.
 
It's gonna cost almost a grand to fix the 102 and I'm getting the 127 for around $300. What kind of work would need to be done?

Apparently you are not planning on doing the labor yourself.

What are they fixing on the tractor for $1000-?

On the 127? $300- is about the going price for a parts condition narrow framed Cub Cadet. Probably the same work that someone is charging you $1000-.

Edit. Just my opinion.
 
The 102 isn't running at all, engine has three head bolts snapped off in it, probably looking at a new carb, clutch is completely torn apart, not sure if the transmission is still good, front wheels are locked up, and it's been sitting in the weather for over four years. The 127 was just used to mow a quarter of an acre last year and runs pretty good. I'm not doing the work myself because I don't know enough about engines and don't have that kind of time to set aside for it
 
Hi, welcome to the forum!

A few comments/thoughts..
The 102 is a gear drive, 127 would be a hydro. A hydro is better suited for some attachments where slower ground speed is needed (tiller, snow blower), unless you have a creeper in the gear drive.
They are both "narrow frames", but the 127 would be 2 series "newer" than the 102 and would have the "quick attach" system on the front. Many attachments can be utilized on either cadet with minimal adjustments.
Fyi, the 12 HP engine in the 127 will bolt in the 102 (essentially making it a 122 :wink: ). But, this doesn't sound like a good idea with the 102 sitting out in the weather for 4 years.

I find the gear drives simpler to work on, but that's what I like and am use to, so probably biased. There isn't really much to either, so don't think there's going to be any issues that cannot be worked through.

Does the 102 have a creeper gear? It might if he had a tiller, would be tough going without it (little faster than ideal).

102/122 are pretty common here and should be in PA, I have at least 5. A decent one could probably be found in the $300 price range you are looking at. Keeping with the same series has some advantages and you would have a "parts" tractor with your current one. Just something else to ponder :wink:

I'm not sure if it does. I think I'm gonna go ahead and get that 127 especially if I can use the attachments from the 102. Is there any diagrams floating around that shows how to hook up the tiller?
 
Grab the 127! Yes, all of your attachments will interchange as both are "narrow frame" cub cadet tractors. The "wide frame" cub cadets didn't come out until the series after the 127 (also known as the 1x6/1x7 series). The 12-horse hydro in the 127 is a perfect setup for the tiller! You'll need many parts off of the 102, especially the tiller mounting bracket with the angle drive adaptor! Those items are hard to find and are necessary in order to use the tiller.

I agree with your assessment of the 102, sounds like it's been out in the weather and abused a little too much. Nothing that cannot be repaired, but for $300, I'd jump on the 127, then pull the 102 in the garage and start fixing/repairing as you can rather than pay someone else to do the work. Then you eventually can have 2 Cadets and won't have to change implements as much!

First welcome to the forum.

I say make a list of what both tractors need to make the run. I’d end up with both anyway. One mower, one tiller.
 
I had an 80 hydro with a mower, blade, and snowblower at one time. hydro went out so it sat. The motor was worn out too. it was b7s 8 hp vertical crank model.
also still have a 147 hydro, mower was junk,ate out beat up so I got rid of the deck. Later I took the blade from the 80 and welded some simple brackets on it so it fits the 147. Made a real bulldozer with it. --- never did get to adapt the snowblower to the 147 as I have 10 hp walk behind, but I figured out how to make the 90 degree turn for the belt drive. cutting/welding brackets are no problem.
The narrow frame stuff can be converted. Just some ideas to consider.
 
I believe my wide frame snowthrower can be adjusted narrower to fit the narrower frame. But you’ll need to fab parts to go from a narrower frame to the wide frame. On the rear end both frames are the same width I believe. But the pto belts on the wide frame and narrow frame are different lengths for the rear tiller.
