Marvel Schebler Carb

I'm looking at a '49 C. It looks to have a Marvel Schebler Style carburetor on it. The current owner does not have the choke linkage hooked up. If anyone on here has this carb, can you tell me if the choke rod will hook up properly on this carburetor, or what must be done to connect the rod to it.

Should connect the same as other brands of carburetor on that tractor, essentially the same as on a Cub.

It does seem odd that the hose to the air cleaner is not in line. It should be. Is it the right M-S carburetor?

Hi,
Be careful when buying any tractor that has the air cleaner hose disconnected from the carburetor, especially if it has a cultivator, and is, or was used in dry locations, where there would be dust made by the cultivator, or the wheels.
The dust can go into the engine, and wear the cylinder walls.
Listen carefully beside the engine, when it is running, for tapping, or knocking sounds.
The sounds can be pistons that are loose in the cylinders.

Maybe you knew this already.

I don't think the air cleaner is disconnected, just an odd angle to the hose.

I also just noticed the hood runs up hill to the front. Does it maybe have a Super C radiator and grille? Maybe more mixed parts explain the air cleaner hose.

I couldn't see in the pic if the air cleaner hose was connected or not.

Thanks guys. The guy wants to trade it and cash for one of my Cubs that I don't really use. I might just see if he wants to buy the Cub outright without a trade involved. I would like to have a C or Super C, or even an H, but it may not be this one. It does seem to run good, but will need some TLC among other things.

I have been trying to find a free download of the parts catalog, but so far I have been unsuccessful. I have found the ones where they want you to register and give your credit card information, but I'm always skeptical about those sites that asked for billing information when the site says it's free.

I have found some parts at JP Tractor Salvage, but I as I said I just don't know if I'm ready to pull the trigger on such a project as this.

Here is a close up of the carb area. As Jim mentioned, the air breather hose is attached to the carb, but it does appear to be at an odd angle.

I wouldn't sweat the air intake hose. If the C is like the A and B, there are slot holes in the air cleaner frame the bolts go through. May just be a matter of loosening the two bolts, sliding the air cleaner up and tighten.

Looks like the choke rod snakes in behind the air intake. Taken from the Super C Operator's Manual:




Pictured is the IH carb, but I believe the choke butterfly shaft/disc could be reversed to put the handle on the engine side of the carb, allowing a rod to be installed. I've got a Marvel Schebler carb on my AV and the choke handle sticks out away from the engine. I'll have to do the ol' switcheroo too and make a new choke rod.
