Interesting possible backfire issue

Got myself a new 49 Farmall h. Had to change the fan belt on it which started all my problems. I redid the timing on it. And got it started again. Here's the interesting problem I'm having I'm getting a backfire issue. But it's not coming out of the exhaust. It's coming from the air filter. I can put my hand on the air filter and feel it jumping. I can put my hand under the air filter at the very top and feel air surging out with every pop. Now I've heard that it could be a possible manifold issue as I do have a little hole in the manifold just under where the muffler would go. But it did not have this issue before. So curious what you guys think of a possible backfire in the air filter.

Figured I'd upload a video of what I'm talking about

Did you have the plug wires off? You might have a couple mixed up. The other thing that can cause intake backfire is an intake valve not fully closing or not sealing.

I suspect the timing is still off, and/or it's not firing on all cylinders. Check your timing and the wiring connections to be sure your firing order is correct.

Think you have two plug wires on wrong spark plugs.

Close up of distributor cap and plug wire termination would help.

If I remember correctly I do have the spark plug wires not in the normal configuration but that was due to the timing showing the number one plug in a different position. It could very much be a timing issue but I cannot adjust the distributor any further away from the engine then what it is. If I move it closer to the engine it will kill it. It is very possible that this distributor is off of a Farmall m the guy I bought it from sent me a bunch of M parts.. but the distributor and housing look the exact same as others on other h,s that I have.. could the distributor off of an m cause an issue

You need to time the distributor to the engine then adjust the timing. Your distributor is off a tooth or two.

Probably not.

Only watched just over 4 minutes of the video. You are off a tooth or two. You need to remove the distributor and retime it.

Now I suspect you're about to give me some very good knowledge on this which is quite helpful. Because lots of people I think come into this issue if I am correct what you are trying to say is take the distributor off and it just the distributor gears one or two teeth so that it lines up properly. Is that what you're trying to say

Nope. This is another task that is easier to do or demonstrate than to explain.

Search the internet Youtube for how to install a distributor.

The hole in the manifold would not do the backfire....Mine had a hole in it....Lost a bit more power every year....as the hole got bigger....New manifold and the power is back....never backfired on me and started right up.....

Might not be relevant or too basic, but are you sure you got TDC and not the other stroke...meaning you think you are on compression but you are on exhaust?

Well the damn tractor runs LOL you could be right I don't know the basics of how the damn thing actually operates lol. I had a timing issue before I got it as close as I could to get the damn thing started I guessed on top dead center.

As an added note since I was having some possible sticking valve issues on my Ford 9N. If you guys ever go on temu. You can get a nice little phone operated borescope for like five bucks. Look at some reviews on YouTube for such things but I'm telling you I just got mine today and the damn thing is pretty good for five bucks
