A lot of the time, there is a logo. Some only had a part number, or nothing. Cast or forged are usually the best marked, stamped steel not so much.
 
Would those part numbers be in the R1 and R2 format or would they have used a different number format?
 
Most if not all had regular part numbers, the "R" format for anything after those numbers came along in the mid-40s. Prior to that, they would have looked like the earlier style part numbers.
