Ice Cream Machine (now with details)

Just finished my latest cub project. It's an ice cream maker made of the gearbox from a automatic livestock feeder, an antique axle assembly, a homemade PTO shaft.

Prepped for paint and got primed today. Will get 2150 and an IH decal in a day or two.

Does the ice cream taste as good as what we've had from Kodiak's "Ice-Kreme Kub"? :D

Hope so.

We're planning to have the first batch Saturday nite at my cousins place. The whole clan is getting together there.

I've done a fairly extensive test of all components and think it's ready to go.

Any recipe suggestions accepted
 
Looks good and interesting. No recipes that I know of but Mint Chocolate Chip is the best ( or at least it is to me ).
 
Good Morning:
What a great Idea,one of the flavors that I like is peanut butter,using your vanilla recipe just add about a half cup peanut butter per 1 1/2 gals container. A nieghbor made this many years ago and I have enjoyed it very much over the years.
 
Way to go :D You'll be the envy of any event you go to, and have a blast sharing with family and friends :!: Is this one on a regular cub ? Mine was made for my fasthitch cub. I took mine to a local church fundraiser and I don't know if I had more fun making Ice-cream or talking to the Old Timers that were interested in how it was made, either way I had a great time.

Ron, This is made to hitch to the front hole on a standard drawbar. The one that takes the eyebolt for the plow. That is where the PTO shaft lines up with the gearbox. The gearbox is a 30 to one reduction that makes a nice slow speed. I wanted to do it without belts etc.

It came from the scrap pile at Wright-Patt (I have friends there :shock: ) its a 38.5 to 1 reduction box.

Great, you have the frist one made for a standard hitch cub and I have the first fast-hitch version. I made some creme this evening for the inlaws and we all had a great time. It freezes in about 15 to 20 minutes even on a hot day like today (mid-90's)

Got it painted but still waiting for the IH decal to come in the mail.

Happy, the yellow lab, inspecting the progress after a quick swim in the pond. (Was nearly 100 degrees here today)

That is WAY cool!

Could you post some detail as to how the gearbox is driven? Is that just a flywheel on the end, or is it a shaft-driven piece? My next project for Merlin will be to make a "Kodiak-Style" platform carrier for him, and then I would like to do something like this as a separate attachment that could be mounted to the platform carrier... That would be WAY cool...

Yep, Mike, I got a hankering to build one of these myself. Not just for the novelty of it, but it will be a very big attraction to get kids close to the cub. :D
 
Where did you guys get the icecream maker from? I assume it is five gallon. I started a icecream maker project with my buddy but he passed away before we finished. I am using a hit-and miss John Deere 1 1/2 HP engine. I got everything except the maker. Want to finish in his honor. The only icecream maker I found was made by the Amish in NE Ohio.Thanks.
