Fuel tank mod

This may get me excommunicated from this forum, but I wanted to share how I recovered after a self-inflicted gas tank screw-up... When I got my 1954 Cub, it has quite a bit of rust in the tank, After some research and advice from this forum, I tried Ospho, followed by POR15 tank lining paint. I followed the directions on both steps to the letter. Initially, everything looked great. But the hood sat around for a few days, while I worked on other areas. When I looked again. the lining was all peeled up and flaky. I agonized over this for several months. I saw a lot black flakes in the filter. I considered buying a new hood, but the price was just too high, so I decided major surgery was called for - a transplant.

I found a piece of 6" SS pipe at the scrap yard. That became the basis for a new tank. I cut out the old tank bottom and baffle, and fabricated the components to make the tank shown in the pics below. It fits nicely within the old tank's envelope, with room to spare, (could be some onboard storage space if I can think what to use it for). A piece of 6x6 or 8x6 square tubing would have been better for volume, but you take what can get at the scrap yard.

Anyway, I don't foresee a rush of people wanting to make one of these, but I can share details if anyone is interested. A few key metrics below:

-Capacity of new tank - ~ 2.25 gallons (3 working hours based on the 3/4 gal/hr in the sales literature - plenty for me)
-Cost of Materials:
SS pipe - $21.00
SS tank neck and cap - $37.00
sheet of SS plate scrap for ends - $2.00
1x1x1/8" angle for support - $9.00
miscellaneous hardware - ~$10.00
chunk of solid plastic for a making the cap look like the (revised) original - free
SS grounding cable - $5.00
SS rod to make U-bolts - $20.00
-Labor - a ridiculous amount

Thanks for the tremendous helpful information on this forum everyday - I've learned a ton here.
