How do I remove the tractor axle bolt spacers used with front plow? Looked at a machine today I may consider purchasing. Tractor comes with a front blade (not currently mounted) and I would like to use cultivators on the tractor. It appears the axle bolt spacers are inserted in the mounting casting, but I am not able to pull them out (well, only tried one). Bolts are loose and backed out.

Are the spacers held tight or do they have a little wiggle? I have seen the bolts (or setscrews) put indentations into the square part they hold. The bolt can be sticking into the indentation and keep the part from moving. Make sure the bolts are completely clear of the part (remove completely if you aren't sure). If the spacers still don't move, use a hammer. (Barnyard meant to lightly hit with a hammer, not to make threads.)

I believe they have a little wiggle room. The front oil seal leaks horribly and casting mount is soaked with engine oil, well at least on the right side of the tractor so not sure if they are rusted in. The bolts (or setscrews) are completely backed out and tight--wasn't sure if they would completed come out of the mount.
Oh. That may be another problem. If those bolts are allowed to run loose, the movement of whatever square insert has been in there can gradually head the end of the bolt. It can then be too large to unscrew far enough to release the square part. If that is what you have, running the bolt in will hold the square part tight and running the bolt out will allow some movement of the square part but not release it. I'm not sure there is an easy fix for that.
Maybe a hacksaw to cut off the end of bolt. Both vertical and horizontal. The block should move up enough to get a hacksaw blade in there. Don’t try to force the bolts out with a wrench. I ended up breaking a bolt off in the bolster.

Below are pictures of a setscrew and lock nut used with the Cub 22 Mower, it can also be used with the Blade, and Universal Mounting Frame parts that go in the square hole under the steering gear.
The end digs into the metal to hold it in place.
To put it, or them in, back the lock nut off, up the setscrew, tighten the setscrew in well, then turn the lock nut down against the casting, and tighten it against the casting.
They need checking and tightening some, to be sure they haven't worked loose, especially with the Cub 22 Mower.
The lock nut can be thinner.

Make sure you check the threads! If there bad you will have to drill it out and install a Heli coil. One of mine was bad and thats what I had to do.
I think this means he no longer needs this information.
Not for this tractor but maybe for one in the future
Or maybe someone else.
