Farmall H water pump woe's

Have been working through problems on my 1940 Farmall H. The more it moves and runs, the more problems show up. The last being, leaking water pump. Leaking was from the front, found this is classic tighten packing nut, or replace packing material then tighten packing nut. First researched replacing the water pump with aftermarket new. On Ebay all offered water pumps looked alike, prices ranged from $155.00 to $250.00. Logged into a popular aftermarket supplier of antique tractor parts. They offered a new water pump for it seems everything BUT a Farmall H. I called and was informed they stopped supplying water pumps for Farmall H because of a flaw in the design that caused leaking. Also stated they were working with the oversea's supplier to correct the wate rpump design and would not be suppling water pumps till the corrections were made. Guessing the overseas supplier is China. Also guessed all aftermarket water pumps are from the same overseas supplier. Then researched places that could rebuild the original pump. Selected a company in Houston Tx that stated they rebuilt antique tractor water pumps. About a week into the rebuild, once rebuild seals and parts were ordered and installed I receive a call. Seems they never checked the wear of the packing nut. Learned it not only pushes into the packing material, but also is the rear bearing for the impeller shaft. That is the part of the original packing nut which is worn out. Told no one makes replacement packing nuts. More than a bit disappointed they did not check tolerances of all parts before they got this far into the rebuild. The packing nut was to be the last part installed to complete the project. Now a stalled project. Anyone out there that has a hint of advice for a packing nut. Or was any of the info I was given incorrect. He did offer to contact a local company for him than could maybe machine the old packing nut with a bushing. But of course more $$$

That is what I fear Shane. Found posts with new aftermarket leaking water pumps. To my eye it it does not matter who sells it, they all look exactly the same. Just got the engine, thermostat housing, repainted. Trying for a one time fix, to keep my freshening up from just being a waste of time. Thanks to you anyway.
 
check with JP Tractor, one of the sponsors at the bottom of the page. They may be able to supply you with a good used one, that at the very least you could take the packing nut out of. they may even have the packing nut for sale.
