False hope or engine stuck ?

Couple months ago, I bought a cub as a project for the kids. Story is it ran good but sat a couple years after grandpa died and the engine got stuck. I bought it with the assumption that the engine was rusted stuck. When loading it on my tilt trailer, I noticed oil dripping out the fill where the bayonet gauge goes. I drained the oil today and there was a tiny bit of water that came out at first, but around 2.5 to 3 gallons of oil came out. I remember after loading it up, the owners grandson told me he tried hand cranking it right before I came and it moved a little but locked up. I really didn’t give it much thought due to the grandson being a goofball.

After giving it some thought, if the hydraulic oil had leaked into the engine or engine was overfilled, is it possible the engine could be hydrolocked ? I tried taking off the spark plugs but they were rusted tight. They are now soaking in penetrant.

Two and a half to three gallons is a lot even if it included hydraulic oil. Have you tried turning the engine backward to see if it moves?

You can remove the starter and use a large screwdriver or pry bar to turn the engine backwards by using the teeth on the ring gear. Stan

Some of these, like my 65 rescue Loboy develop head leaks that can leak into the oil sump. Mine rusted #4 solid.
You probably wont regret pulling the head, reringing (including honing) and touching up the valves.
Mine had major carbon buildup on the rings…read that as stuck….with 0.120 end gap….
