Fair price for set of cultivators

What's a fair price for a set of cultivators these days? Might go check out a set later this week that's for sale. Wasn't sure what's a fair price. Don't want to get ripped off and don't want to lowball the guy either.

You’ll get numbers all over the place in response to this. Availability in your area will drive the price. Look for a complete set. Adding parts to an incomplete set can drive the total cost up quite a bit. Look for wear and welds, avoid those. In my area they are in demand and price can get steep, as much as $600 and sometimes more.

Ok cool. This set looks complete to me. I'll look for welds and broken stuff though when I check it out in person. The guy said he had them mounted on his Cub and used them for a while, but then sold the Cub and just never got around to selling some of the implements he had.

Print off some pictures from the manual to take along to make sure you get all the parts.
And take several photos and post them here before making a commitment, so that those with knowledge can advise as to completeness and condition.

Looks like you're in Michigan, I'm guessing you should find a decent set in the 300 dollar range.

I'll take some photos.

I wish you had asked this question ten days ago. You might have left here with a set.

You have sets of cultivators too? I was just looking for a plow at the time but after I did some more digging I found I'll likely need a set of discs and cultivators and just saw these pop up on FB marketplace last night. Thought I'd go check them out.

Do you have the long rod that goes between the two hydraulic arms? I'm not sure what it's actually called. Mine is bent up. The more I look at it the more it bothers me haha! Would be nice to get one that's not bent, paint it up, and install it.

Do you have a solid date for the October bash yet or still planning that one?

I might have one. I think it was your Cub I saw with the bent rod. I was going to take it off and straighten it, but as usual I got distracted and forgot to get back to it.

It looks like it will be around October 19-21 but is subject to change.

Yep mine is kind of bent up. If it can be straightened somehow that would be great.

Ok sounds good. I'm planning on coming again as long as I don't have anything else going on with work/school, etc.

It does look a bit like a pretzel. But, I think a half hour with a hydraulic press can make it look good again.

Looks to me like it started out as one that had the two bends near the gas tank. The big gentle bend in about the middle is the only one I see that doesn't belong there. It should be a fairly easy fix.

Ok cool. I don't have a press. Maybe I can just bring that one part with me to the next Cub Fest. I've never used a hydraulic press before, I could learn something new! :)

Well I checked over the pics in the manual and they seemed pretty complete. I decided to just pick them up since they looked good. Guy wanted $275 and I gave him $250. Need to be cleaned up and painted.

He also has a fast hitch but I don’t know much about those.

I think you did okay on the cultivators.

A fast hitch is great to have since you can change implements a lot easier, but that plow you bought will not work with it and the rear of those cultivators is a bit different.

It seemed like a fair price for the condition. I’ll have to clean them up good as it looks like they sat outside for a while.

I wasn’t sure on the fast hitch. I wasn’t sure if it was missing parts. I already have the regular plow so I passed on that.

Cleaned up the cultivators yesterday and got them primed. My daughter decided she wanted to help out, so I let her paint some of the parts. Going to paint them this weekend.

Had to break a few of the bolts loose to move some parts around. That was fun. Ended up using my crescent wrench and the handle off of my floor jack for extra leverage, along with lots of PB Blaster. Greased the couple fittings that I could find on them as well.

I'll test fit them on the tractor soon and make sure everything moves properly. :tractor:

Hi,
Below is the Cub 144 Cultivator owner's manual. It has lots of info and shows how to put the cultivator on the Cub.
Page 10 shows the Universal Mounting Frame, it has the front part of the cultivator on it.
The frame is made so other Cub cultivating implements fasten to it, so you only need to buy the frame once.
Start putting it on by sliding the long square shaft through the square hole, from the left side of the Cub.

https://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.cle ... index.html

You will need setscrews for the 2 holes at the bottom side of the square hole. :)
