East Tennessee - won't start

Hi folks

I was wondering if anyone here is near Kingsport, TN and would be willing to take a look at my Cub? It's a 1948 thats been converted to 12v.
I've replaced the following:
plugs
Plug wires
distributor cap
rotor
Replaced ALL wiring
New carb
Points and condenser

Here's what happening:
Just got a new Cub, hasn't ran in years I suppose.After replacing all the ignition parts I still was getting no spark and found a wire was grounded in the distributor from where they cut the magneto wire when changing to 12v.
Have good spark.
Timing is set to where it clicks on the timing mark.
Compression i good. Really sucks the air thru the carb into the block.
All the valves move.
I sprayed a little starting fluid into the plug hole and get a little smoke so it's getting ignited.
Engine cranks over but no hits.
I've tried pulling it with my Jeep and rolling down slight hill. Engine turns but not even a cough.
I've got a pony tank for fuel.


I give up.
If you can help me get it running I have the following for pay.
2 IH Carburetors. (One has a needle valve cage wrung off and just needs an easy out to get it out.)
All the old ignition parts I replaced but probably didn't need to.

OK... Since it seems to have good suction and good spark, I think your timing is off. Even though the mag hits at the timing mark, it could be that your plugs are not in the correct order.

Firing order is 1-3-4-2. Check the plug wires to make sure that they are in the right spot. Plug wire 1 goes to about the 12 o clock position and the go clockwise from there. 3 is at 3:00 position. 4 at the 6 o-clock, and 2 at 9:00 position.

Agree with Mike. Think you ignition timing is off. Some place.

Is this a magneto or battery powered ignition system?

Magneto, you could be 180 degrees out of time or the rotor miss located.
 
Well fellers

I stuck a cork in the #1 plug hole and when it popped out, I lined up the mark and the rotor was 180 degrees off. Timed the mag again and she fired right up!!!! Man I was so glad!!! Thank you guys for the help and thanks to the board for all the how to stuff?

Now I'll keep my word...where can I send the parts to?

I don't know about Hengy. I only take payment is chickens and pigs.

Edit. Put the carburetors on the self along with any other potentially good parts. Keep the carburetors.

This is a really cool tip! With Rudi taking a bit of a hiatus, who is doing the "tip of the week" section? Perhaps a post in the "how to" would help!

Glad you got it going. I love implements and parts, but I'll take my payment in the form of satisfaction that you get out of getting your tractor going. It's what this forum is all about!!

If Mike will post his technique in the how to forum I will lock it in so we will have it handy. I could also edit his post here and copy it, but I want to make sure he gets the credit.
