Depth adjusting lever/homemade

Anyone ever seen someone on this forum build a simple homemade drawbar depth adjusting lever to plow with? Was just curious if someone might have built one and it’s simple and effective and maybe even better than oem.

Well here it is. My simple but effective plow depth adjustment device. Only thing left to do is drill some holes for pins for adjustment or put two nuts on it one on top and one on bottom. And of course try it out to see if it’s gonna hold up! Also included is my homemade rear rock shaft. Total cost 23 dollars for the rod. Everything else is scrap out the metal scrap pile.

Can't completely tell from the picture, but it appears to me that you have the rod going straight through the drawbar with nuts top and bottom. You may end up with a problem with it binding there. I think the drawbar us typically angled down quite a bit in normal plowing position. You may need to do something to allow for the changing angle of the drawbar.

The hole in the drawbar is larger than the rod. Enough room for the drawbar to be able to move up an down. The nuts are not pulled together tight. Enough slack to work. I can push it way down or up.

How are you holding that rod in position on the platform? Do you have that under the platform?
I mentioned I either will drill some holes for pins or use nuts. But since then I have been thinking of even better ideas. I will make something that will be on top of platform to secure too. Only thing left to do, not done yet.

While you’re thinking of ideas, bear in mind that the depth control mechanism, however designed, needs to be able to be adjusted “on the fly” to compensate for changing soil conditions in the field.

Well I will try this and see how it goes. Not so nice as the original hand lever but atleast it will secure the drawbar and is adjustable and I can use the plow since I do not have the original setup. It was not about making a better setup but making something I could plow with while not having the original! The constant plow depth can be set with this, should tractor wheels spin because of changing soil conditions I can bump it up or down a little with the Hydralic lift to compensate. I myself attempt to work ground at optimum moisture levels and not when to dry and hard or to wet. As well as having your land drainage right. That appears to me to be a big mistake of many people. Just plowing any time. Patience on waiting on right soil conditions is key. If ground is at optimum conditions for plowing moisture wise very little if any depth adjustments should have to be made.
