CUB ENGINE SWAP

I have a 1948 Farmall cub ser#23264 that has a tired old engine. I did a quick inframe OH 10 years ago. It needs new valves, guides, boarded OS and crank turned. My machine shop estimated about 3K to have it done. I have an opportunity to purchase a power unit ser#52HT2082. I am not sure about the year. Is this a direct swap minus the manifolds? Thanks for your input.

Not familiar with a Cub Power unit, but putting a motor in a Cub was fairly straight forward when I did it about 8-9 years ago putting the 184 motor in my Cub. Hardest part was getting the shaft to go through the clutch.

Just be sure the power unit motor is in good condition, you don’t want to invest time and money to end up with the same thing you have now. Be aware that the power unit is governed to operate at higher rpm, not a bad thing, just an f.y.I.
Thank you for your concern I will check it out. Can I swap the governor assembly?

If your tractor has the battery ignition, you can simply swap that over to the power unit engine. The magneto is unforgiving to governor timing, the battery ignition doesn’t care how the governor is timed, just plug the dist. in where it needs to be.

The best way to check the overall health of the replacement engine is to run a compression test to verify that the cylinder and rings aren't worn out and the valves are sealing. Pressure testing the cooling system will show if the engine block is sound or cracked.
If the engine currently runs you can verify it carries sufficient oil pressure.
