Clancy radiator problems with fit.

Paul (goxu1) in Australia bought a Clancy from TM that I shipped to him before covid stopped overseas shipping. It didn't fit, about 3/8"- 1/2" short. The top pipe was about 1/2" below the inside top of the hose, and the side supports would not fit underneath the radiator top. A second was sent to me with the same poor fit. I checked one I bought 5-6 years ago that was new in the box, and wrz checked one that he bought from the Art Luke estate. They both fit the same, poorly. I'm trying to figure out a fix. If the side supports weren't there, I fab a 3/8" shim and use a second gasket with longer bolts. Unfortunately that raises the side supports the same amount. Put on your thinking caps and offer us suggestions. The Clancy has always been touted as the best fitting one. I don't know if they had a bad batch, or someone changed a drawing or? Thanks in advance.
 
Has anyone contacted them directly with the information? Having no need for one l'm a little out of it, but my general rule is to go to the source.
Every thread l've ever seen about replacement radiators has led me to believe that Clancy was the best choice. Curious how they go from hero to zero so quickly.
My first step would be contacting them to figure out why the change.

I somewhat disagree. I think the retailer needs to be brought into the loop. Otherwise the problem will keep reoccuring.
 
Paul has talked to Ron, that's how he got the second one sent to me. He has sent drawings to Clancy but hasn't gotten any response. Maybe most of them do fit correctly, but there are at least these 4 that are all the same and too short.
 
I got a reply from "Clancy" on the 23/3 and not a peep since.
It seems to me that they are ignoring the problem , as it might open up a can of worms if they admit to a problem.
 
maybe I should contact TM and tell him the second also doesn't fit and get a full refund.
Its pointless shipping another.
 
I just sent Ron an email. AI products supplied another radiator to replace the dodgy one I have.
They were also going to pay for shipping on the second , but if they are dimensionally the same , its a pointless exercise.
In the meantime , I think an original re-cored would the way to go.

I was like what?? What day? Is that a date :lol: Then I remembered you were in a foreign country to us here and some countries do the date like that. Our military does as well I'm just not used to seeing it without the month abreviated and the year after it. Like 23 MAR 2022
 
Ha , come on and join the rest of us. It's only the USA and 4 other countries using the mm/dd/yy system.
Switch to metric while you're at it. Only USA and 2 other countries using it imperial measurements.
 
I prefer the linear method ergo month-day, not day-month. If someone says "March" then "23" you can go to March and look for 23 but if they say "23" then "March" the 23 is irrelevant until you hear "March", it's backwards. Kinda like telling someone what train to get on before telling them what station to go to. Never made much sense to me but then I drive on the right. :wink:
 
Back to the radiator fit problem. I stopped at a rediator shop this morning for some information on a recore. I didn't have the presence of mind to have Cub radiator dimensions, so we had to wing it based on his experience. $275 to $300 plus tax.

The dimension 'A' of 13.625' on that diagram is the problem one. It should be more like 14"
On the Clancy I've got , its more like 13.5" , maybe 13-9/16. Still too short to fit properly
 
Isn't that recore price what y'all are paying for the Clancy junk? Seems like a no brainer to me to recore an original vs aftermarket.
