Broken Gear Shift Lever

I was plowing snow with the '48 Cub this morning and the gear shift lever broke. Fortunately, I was able to remove the gear shift housing and move the shifter forks into the right configuration so I could return to the garage in1st gear. I had read that this is not too rare, so I was prepared to fix it as others had. What I wasn't prepared for was seeing that the shift lever had actually broken into two pieces (below is a photo). It was sheared in two, almost like it was cut. Looks like it had broken in the past at the spot where the inner shield attaches, and the previous owner welded it back together. The weld did not look great, so I am amazed that it lasted this long (at least 27 years). I have to remove the gear shift lever guide along with the broken inner shield and put in a new gear shift lever. Aside from buying a used one, looks like Hamiliton Bob sells new ones for $48 plus shipping.

Just wanted to let everyone know what most of you already know. This forum and members are the greatest on the planet. Grader Lee, one of the forum members. sent me a direct message that he had a shift lever he was no longer using and would send it to me. Makes me proud to be a member also. Kinda wish we all lived in the same town.
