Bought a Sickle mower at auction

I'm guessing this is a model 100 balanced head mower. Has the small 2 point hitch so it should fit our SC or 230. Not sure what this was on and whether I will need some different pieces for the lift or not.

This spring and 2 flat bar pieces came with this. Not sure what they are for but thought maybe the plates are to adapt to the bigger 2-point hitch. The length is about right. Anyone know just what they are for?

I agree on the filler plates. They should be 1/2 inch thick. There should be pins crosswise near one end that keeps them from sliding forward. It looks like you have the remains of a pin in at least one of them.

Don't know on the spring.

Thanks for the reply. They have some old nails in the holes now. Just went out and measured them and they are 1/2" thick.

I had the sickle mower with the pitman stick for my SC and it had a breakaway mechanism that attached to the right axle clamp. I don't see any breakaway for this one although there seems to be a tab on the right prong... but I am not familiar with this model.

The breakaway is built into the frame. I think the mechanism is on the bottom side where you can't really see it. I'll try to get some pics of it as I need to make sure it works.

Got a diagram of the assy. #7 is listed as the breakaway arm and #4 is the breakaway latch spring.

I tipped it up and got a pic of the breakaway assy. I should probably pull it apart and make sure everything is moving and lubed up.

Wow, that is pretty fancy....Mine was pretty old school. I have been kicking myself for 4 years after getting rid of mine. It cut some short stuff really well and it was super cool. I got frustrated that it wasn't cutting well when it was too much viney undergrowth so I impulse sold it.

Once you get the sections and the ledger plates set right (I was shown how by a guy with a hammer!) it will be so cool to see it cut right. I will enjoy your process.

We have another one of these balanced head mowers that I believe is a model #120. It had a usable belt that turns out to be the same part number. I got it swapped out so this will let me test things out before buying a new belt.

Got the hitch lift links moved to the fixed/stationary positions. The lift chain that came on the mower will work but the alignment isn't quite right. Need to find info on the correct setup. I moved it out in the driveway and did a test run. Doesn't sound to bad for a machine thats been sitting for quite a while.

Looks great! Sorry, I don't know the lift mechanism for that model on the 230. Mine hooked up to the TC rock shaft via a cable.

This tractor s does not have the rockshaft on the unit under the gas tank. With this hitch system the hitch is locked in a fixed position and uses the rear rockshaft for lifting. Our super C uses a long rod hooked to the rockshaft under the fuel tank. A couple pics of the unit under the tank. This system is called a Traction control hitch.
