I found a 1950 Cub on marketplace just five miles away. I thought I would check it out to see if it might be a demo. But I noticed it had a mag and long eared dash. There was no serial number tag so I looked at the engine block. I had a hard time seeing the number so I took a picture of it. It shows 4144. No demo but real close to a Circle Cub. I checked the front corner of the engine for any cracks. Nothing there so I looked at the bolster. Looking good so far. There was no water in the radiator. Dry as a bone. Owner could not get it to start so the negotiations began. I got him down to a reasonable price and I said I would pick it up tomorrow when I had my trailer. If I had the trailer I would have brought it home. Tonight I was looking at several of the pix I had taken. As Gomer Pyle would say, surprise, surprise. surprise! When I looked below the serial number I noticed a deal breaker. This might be why the radiator was dry. Glad I left the trailer home or else this would be sitting in my yard tonight.
