So I am new o this group. I also just got my first farmall cub for son that is 8. The tractor was give to us for him to get the tractor going for his 4H project. The guy that had the tractor had put a flame thrower ignition on it. I can't get spark. I am new to learning the electrical side of things. Has anyone else had issues with this. Or am i missing something stupid. Thank you in advance for any advice. I'm trying to load pictures now.

Welcome to the group! Fantastic that your son will be doing this tractor-any implements with it? Positive ground still?

I would recommend taking the flamethrower out and swing by Napa Auto Parts for the OEM style points, plugs, wires and coil-Should all be In Stock. Lots of people have tried the flamethrower conversion with little success-I even tried one on my '69 1300d and went back to OEM after issues starting.

Lots to check for sure. Along with standard fluid changes, make sure you look inside the radiator and do a vinegar wash if there's a bunch of corrosion. Adjust the valves via the side access on the left behind the manifold. Plan on a can or 2 of penetrating oil to squirt on everything and hit all of the grease zerks. Seafoam in the oil should help with stuck rings causing compression issues, if present.

After a waiting period on this site, there's a ton of manuals scanned in that you will be able to download-located under resources.

Again, welcome to the group and look forward to updates and pictures in the future.

Hi,
You didn't say which ignition it has, a magneto, or a Battery Ignition unit.
I guess you meant the Cub has a Battery Ignition unit.
Below are pages from a manual on here of the Cub Battery Ignition unit, showing the ignition points, condenser, and other parts.
The points burn from use, or could be corroded from sitting, that can cause no power to go through them, then there is no spark. They can be filed if still good. Wipe off all filings with a clean rag.
They need the right gap, it is shown on the 2nd page below.
The points at NAPA are number CS1600.
The condenser could have quit, then there would be no spark.

Welcome to the forum. Assuming you have a battery ignition and using a basic tester, start at the battery and work forward to the points to see where you're loosing current flow. With the ignition switch on, the points must arc every time they open and close for the engine to run. JMHO Stan
