That’s a good lookin H, one of the best looking tractors ever made! What’s the scoop on the front wheels? W4, maybe?

I had another 1942 H (a restored, fully intact distillate model with a factory wide front end), but living on 1/3 acre in the suburbs, it wasn't practical, so I sold it. This H was an impulse buy. I saw an ad for a poorly advertised estate sale tractor collection. Among them were 9 restored H's. I figured there would be some bargains. I got there to find they all had new tires, new batteries, new SMV signs, and someone had gone over them, getting them running and had placed plastic bags over the distributors (It was a rainy day). I bid on the '42 because I had magnetic owner signs from my previous '42 H. I got it for $1,300, with no buyers premium. I have to say, that was the buy of a lifetime. If I didn't have a wife to answer to, I sure as heck would have bought more.

That is a great looking tractor, and a great price. It looks like whoever restored them did a nice job.

I wish I knew the story behind it (and the others). The auction was for the collector's widow. It's kind of good that neither were around to see what prices they went for.
