147 wheel bearings

Like Eugene says there is a difference in aftermarket wheel bearings. Some are so cheap they won't last a season. I've had good luck with some bearing dealers. One thing you may want to looks at is the condition of the wheel hubs, if the bearings don't seat well they'll fail pretty quickly. Regarding beefing it up, later model 1450's were upgraded to 1" spindles. I don't know if they will work on a 147, maybe some here know. gitractorman?

Yea, the front wheels and front spindles are pretty weak on a 147 (or any narrow frame) cub cadet. Probably one of the weakest points especially if you get into using front mounted attachments or especially a FEL.

I'd definitely start looking for a scrap, later model CC with the 1" front spindles. That will be a huge upgrade to your 147, and pretty much a bolt-on job. It will take a little grinding, fitting, etc., but basically it will bolt up and definitely strengthen your front end.
A lot of folks using FEL's end up going to trailer spindle type front ends. This REALLY helps strengthen the front wheels. Here is a fabrication shop that has all the parts you need.

gitractorman: Thanks for the links. I didn't see a discussion on swapping front ends, but the diagrams were helpful. I can't weld, so I am looking for a bolt-on solution. Which is an easier axle swap: Part # 759-3270 (for 129, 149, 1250, 1450, etc.) or Part # 759-3271 (for 984, 1572, 1914, etc.)?
Are the axle pivot pin holes the same diameter on narrow and wide frames?
