Picked up a John Deere BO at auction

Finally got a little break from haying and made a little progress. Packed the wheel bearings and installed the front wheels. I need to make a couple gaskets for the bearing caps.

Worked a little on the JD BO. I had only put gasket sealer on one side of the governor gasket to get it tacked in place. Pulled the governor back off today and sealed the other side and bolted it down hopefully for the last time. Hooked up the oil tube and installed the cover over the timing gears. Installed the front tie rod and made gaskets for the wheel center bearing cover and painted the bolts for installing them that I forgot. Only have 2 weeks until the local tractor show so we will see if I make it.

Been there with the tractor-show pressure, too. Many years ago, my pal brought his father over one week from our Mid-Michigan show. Still hadn't assembled the sheet metal and had the fenders standing upright in the garage complete with hand-painting the embossed lettering. The ol' boy got too close and knocked one over into the other one. Now we were in scramble mode because they were both damaged. Hastily made a paint booth in the garage and "poured" on another coat before hand-lettering. Looked great. However, the hot weather and intense sunshine at the show began melting the fresh paint. We hid the tractor in the shade far away from the activity and had to repaint it afterwards. Never said a word to my pal's father, because I knew nobody felt worse than the did. That was 25 years ago and it still looks better than new. Both of them have since passed, but every time I look at that tractor it reminds me of the past.

Best of luck to you with your detailed work and really looking forward to the finishing touches. Sure takes me back.

I always feel like I have plenty of time until I don't. I still don't know if the radiator is going to leak or not. That may be the hang up.

Sometimes I really think it isn't done right unless it is done last minute 🙂
 
Went out to the shop this evening to do a little on the John Deere BO. I filled the pre-lube tank with oil and got it hooked up to the oil port on the governor. Pressurized the Tank and fed about 7 quarts into the engine. I could see oil coming out around the rod bearings. Looks good so far.

Installed the Magneto and cleaned the mouse nest and rust out of the radiator.

Capped off the inlet and outlet pipes on the radiator and filled it with water. Let it sit half of the day and no leaks. I guess I will put it on the tractor and try it.

Set the radiator on the JD BO. Bolted the carb on, installed the rocker oil tube, and blasted and primed the carb to air cleaner pipe.

The hood, fuel tank, trans case, rear fenders, and rear wheels are also not painted at this time. Just painted what I had apart. Trying to get it going for the tractor show but not may not make it.
 
Your perseverance and dedication to detail will pay off in the long run. Many shows to come. Funny thing how folks will just walk by never realizing what they're looking at. Doesn't matter though. You'll have a scrapbook and memories forever.

This tractor was the last project tractor my Dad bought before he passed away so I really would like to see it running. I did make more progress today but tomorrow is my last day before the show. No time to work out any bugs so if it doesn't start and run good enough I will just have to take something else to the show.
