1948 Wiring Harness diagram with cutout

Postby Outbackbob » Thu Jan 01, 2015 1:02 pm

Hello All:

Trying to restore the electrical on my 1948 cub. Starting from scratch as no wires were left from previous owner. I bought a new harness from yesterday's tractor for the 6 volt system with cutout.
Replaced magneto and light switch, but not sure how this is wired to generator as the color codes do not match my service book.
Would someone please direct me to a wiring schematic that would be correct for my tractor:
SN: 35417
Magneto
Cutout switch on generator

Thanks, Bob

Operator's Manual for your tractor year, or close to your year, has wiring diagrams. Manuals, top of page, free down load.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Looks like you have the correct diagram in your third picture. Am I missing something?

By the way, with all that new paint, you need to make sure all those switches (and the generator, and the cut-out) are properly grounded to the chassis.

Thanks! I have a diagram but the color coding does not match my wiring harness.
So I'm unsure where all is to be connect?
I see diagrams showing regulators but not for the cutouts.

You may find the below diagram useful. It is correct for a 6v cub w/ magneto, generator and cutout.

Hi Jim:

The light switch needs to be grounded too?

Thx Bob

Hi,
If your new wires do not match the color codes shown in the manuals and pictures, the company that made the new wiring harness didn't make it with the original color wires. You will just have to trace each wire going through the harness and see where it has the right length to hook up to. My opinion. Hope you all had a Good New Years. :)

Absolutely. The field circuit of the generator grounds through the light switch. No ground = no charge.
