PTO Drop Cord

This could possibly be the Cub tip of the week, maybe tip of year.

The hardest part of sliding the pto shaft back in place, while aligning the shifter rod is shining a flashlight down in the fill hole and trying to look around the flashlight.

I made up a miniture drop cord using a mini light bulb. The bulb can be lowered down in the hole leaving only two small wires visible in the hole. The little 12 volt bulb illuminates all of the inside of the pto cavity. You can then see the end of both shafts, collar and the shifter lever all at the same time. What was taking me sometimes hours to install the shaft, now a very few minutes.

All kidding aside, I think it is a great idea and it sure beats trying to hold a flashlight in your mouth to see what you are doing.

Whatever you do, don't show this to my wife......... She will be sticking that dang thing in my ear to look for P.S.I.

I realize this thread is three years old, but after reading a few new posts about pto repairs lately, I thought it would be a good time to bring this one back for some of the new guys who may be interested. I thought it was a great tip when Ron first posted it and I still believe many of the folks here would benefit from his idea.

I used the cord at the "Bash" to install the pto into SteveH and his dad's new transmission. Sure makes it easy to see what you are doing. I will try to remember to bring it to the "Tug".

By the way, my brother Roger, Steve Koons and I plan to be at the Tug Thurs afternoon. We need to find Steve something else to do. All he wants to do now is straighten cub carbs.
