1947 Farmall Cub project / Farmall51

Postby Farmall51 » Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:42 pm

I just recently purchased this 1947 Farmall Cub ( #1983) from here in Eastern NC and it originally came from the upper part of Eastern NC so its a local tractor . I saved it from being parted out and I know in someways it would be a good candidate for a parts tractor but I look at it like its 72 years old this year it deserves to be brought back and live another day . Anyway it had its usual little problems but nothing too bad . The trans mission and Final drives are noisy . Im going through the transmission now and soon the final drives . One final drive was broken pretty bad on the top and repaired sometime ago but when I had it cleaned We found the broken out place and I fear it maybe too badly broken to repair . This tractor had a 1952 block in in when I bought it and I have since found a 47 block from a member on here . My goal for this tractor is to get it mechanically in order and later when time an money permit restore it . I want to have a bare bones no extras farmall Cub . This tractor will have no hydraulics just hand lift , No pto but a block off plate , No battery or starter , No lights , just a simple J4 Magneto , Crazy I know but id like to have a plain little cub to take to shows to show people what they could get for $545 . You can keep up with all the progress on my youtube channel @ Farmall51

Thanks Matt H.

I have been watching your youtube channel on this '47 Cub. Keep the videos coming, and also keep this thread updated for those who don't do youtube regularly like I do.

Farmall51,

My restored 1950 is just like you want yours to be. No electrics, no hydraulics, no starter, just stripped down, plain and simple and used for only driving around on. And I enjoy it! Sometimes, simplicity is a truly wonderful thing!
If you own 1 tractor you have a interest
If you own 2 tractors you have a hobby
If you own 3 tractors you have an addiction
Anything over that..well your incurable!

Congrats on the new-to-you '47, Matt. I agree with you wholeheartedly that it deserves to be restored and not parted out.

That serial number would place it in the Circle Cub range; the beginning of July by this chart:
http://www.savethecub.com/serialnumbers.htm

According to this thread, it looks like the decision to drop the Circle Cub decal was July 28, 1947 (http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31587). How long and how many additional Cubs got the decal after the decision was made remains vague. Safe to say that your Cub was definitely a Circle Cub.

Keep us posted and I'll check out your YouTube channel.
