Things to do with old plastic jugs...

I am in the process of doing a full annual service on one of my cubs, and last night was looking at some of the things I have used old plastic jugs for. They really are great for many projects. Maybe you can add some you have come up with!

Catch those last drips of gas, when you disconnect the fuel line:

Oil can as funnel into milk jug for recycling engine oil:

Parts cleaning "pan":

And when you are finished, just open the cap, pour it into a container, and take it to the recycling center:

These various containers come in many sizes for different applications. Some I have had for years!

The large one (antifreeze jug) is good for things like bearings, etc. The smaller one (oil can) is good for nuts and bolts; just drop them in as you remove them, swirl them around, pour off the liquid (kerosene, etc), take them out and dry them off. Clean for reinstallation!

Great ideas Dale! One word of caution though, don't store your old oil for a long time in a milk jug. It will deteriorate over time and make a real mess. Don't ask me how I know....

Got'cha! I usually have it just long enough to get to the "recycling" center...God only knows what they really do with that stuff!!

Some plastic containers come with small funnel type caps. If the cap fits 1 quart oil containers, I save them.

Fill the container with what ever fluid you need to transfer. Snug a plastic hose on the tip. Hose in fill opening. Tip the container above the fill opening, squeeze.

I like that! I think the quart gear oil may come in that type bottle. I may have to add to my collection.
A while back I found a spout at Walmart that fits about 4 different sized jugs. It has a fairly long snout, and has a shutoff valve, so you can tip it upside down to fill something (like transmission), THEN open the valve to start the flow. When done, shut the valve, then turn right side up. Little if no mess. I think it was probably $5 or so...not sure.

walmart has this for less than $1, threads fits multiple size containers. I keep a couple for emergency use.

I use this funnel for adding Hy-Tran to the Touch Control unit.

good morning from the cool deep south . of course , down here we think of ways to use things to eat well . i take a bit of trot line , treble hook on one end , milk jug on the other , bait , and toss in the local bayou . i have anywhere from 12-18 at a time , and just float down the bayou in my canoe following the jugs . you chase down the jug when it "takes off" . relaxing , and you end up with a mess of catfish . coppersmythe ....................................

We used to go jug fishing on Truman Lake in central Missouri. We'd use empty 2 liter soda bottles, 100 lb braided nylon line about 6'-8' long, and (I believe) #8 hooks. Arrive afternoon and catch shad (bait fish), bait hooks and set jugs. Each jug had a 1/4" wide automotive reflective tape around the bottom of the jug. Those things would float horizontally on top of the water until they were hit by blue catfish. When hooked, that jug would stand up in the water with the reflective tap at the top. As it got dark in evening, we'd use a million watt Q-beam spotlight to see the jugs. Not a prettier sight than to switch that light on and see 3 or 4 jugs bobbing up and down in the water. Ahh, those were the days...

I use 16.9 fluid ounce beverage bottles filled with construction foam as floats for trot lines. A float is attached to the weight on the end of the main line so that I can pull the weight straight up.

hello from the cold humid deep south . the only variation is our lakes/bayous are shallow , the lines on my jugs are 3-4' long . example . lake Pontchartrain is 25+ miles wide ,with the longest single span bridge in the world , but 12-15 feet deep . most bayous in the atchafalaya basin are very shallow . the amite river/bayou is "deep" 5-12 ' in spots . 5 miles from my house with a public boat launch . very easy . coppersmythe..............................PS: next time out , i will get some photos of the swamp life....................
