Here's where it begins. Wish me luck. The tires hold air long enough to load it.

There's a lot of work to do here. It's been sitting here for about 5 years after what appears to be a hard life. Engine is stuck from leaving the exhaust uncovered.

Stan, don't forget the big washer under the oil filter, they usually stick to the filter and thrown in the trash. They were missing on both of my jd's.It will not filter the oil and have low oil pressure. You have a lot of therapy there but nothing better.Keep us posted on progress

Thanks for the info. :Dito: on the therapy, I've got multiple projects very similar to this one. I guess it's because the younger generation seems to have lost the desire to get into this sort of activity. Wrenching beats a therapist's couch and is a lot less expensive. :{_}: :{_}:

Soaking the fasteners and moving pivots etc with penetrant. Got enough of the tin off to try a hand crank. Was able to move the CS about 1/4 turn.

If you could turn the crankshaft 1/4 turn that most likely indicates a stuck valve or valves.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

This is a lot like Christmas, I know there are a lot of things there but I have to open each one up to see what is actually inside the package. (I've already found a few angry wasps.) It's becoming more obvious that the PO's son didn't really know much about this one. It could be a bad starter/switch/ground. The engine is obviously not stuck. Quite possible that since it would not turn over with the starter the assumption was made that the engine is stuck.

The remainder of the tin is off, got the manifold off, exhaust looks like swiss cheese and 2 broken ears. Got the plugs out, filled the cylinders with MM oil/diesel and blew out the cylinders from both sides with air. Noticed that the CS moved/fan turned a bit when the air hose was held tight against the spark plug hole. Still soaking and cleaning out years of trash. Next is remove the starter and switch, clean all the contact surfaces and see if the starter will work.

Thanks John. I guess I should pull the valve cover and see what's underneath. Probably needs cleaning up and lubing the mechanism because of water getting in down the exhaust.

Finally got a little time to work with the M. Rear tires are not worth salvage (see picts at the first post). tractordata.com shows OEM tires are 8-24, it currently has 9.5-24, I've seen some info about 11.2-24. It has 5.00-15 on front. Any thoughts on what will give the most balanced appearance? seems like the 8-24 will be too skinny. The 9.5's don't look too bad but seems like anything larger would be overkill unless I could increase the size of the fronts. I've seen some info that 16 inch on the front was an option, probably also larger rears were optional. I don't have an Owners Manual to check this. Any thoughts? TKS.

If interested, I can send you a 32 page pdf brochure/pamphlet on the M. Shows implements and attachment stuff, plus other information. I'm not sure where I got it from, but I have it. PM me your email address if you're interested.
