Cracked front hyd line on 1650

Postby Tom Evans » Wed Jun 13, 2018 8:44 am

The upper front hydraulic line (IH-106877-C1) cracked and is leaking on my 1975 1650 cub cadet. Can I cap the inlet to the pump until I find another line or do I need to cap both lines at the pump? Is the pump filled by adding HY-tran fluid to the differential? If so, how do I bleed the pump after filling? Thanks for any help, Tom.

Not sure about capping the lines, and I would guess that you can. Yes, you add hy-tran to the differential to fill the hydraulic system. Cycling the lift up/down several times bleeds it out. You could try capping the line, and starting the tractor. If it whines a lot, then shut it down, as you've dead-headed the pump. It won't hurt anything, it will just make a lot of noise if the pump is dead-headed.

Thanks. The feed line from the pump dead ends at the quick connect unless the plow is attached. So I thought it should be ok to cap just that line. I'll see if it whines like you suggested. If I can't find a good used line, is it possible to silver solder the small crack in the old one? Thanks again, Tom.
