belly mower belt

Postby cubby » Wed May 07, 2014 7:01 pm

i bought a tractor with a woods belly mower on it.It does not have a serial# tag.The mower is 8 sided and has a open pulley on top of the mower. It is about 48" wide and the belt goes back to the pulley on the PTO.The rear cover says WOODS and the cover sits down on a large round tube at the back of the tractor. My question--Is there any way of making the belt tighter or would the belt be stretched? I don't know the model #.I can't get any pics to load. The belt keeps coming off the main pulley that runs the blades.I'v not made it to the field yet before it comes off.If someone could give any ideas on the model# or point me to a manual. If someone knows the model i have by my description, and could give me a belt # that would also be helpful.I know i'm not giving much information. Thanks for any help.Rick

look at your mule drive and see if you can adjust your pullies. Your mule drive is the tube that has the cover setting on it. Were the belt takes a 90 deg turn there are two pullies.

I would recommend reading the Woods manual if your not familiar with the mower. Click on manuals (right side) above, then OEM Implement and Attachments, then Woods Mower Manuals. You most likely have a 42C-4 or a 42C-6. Difference is in the shape of the bracing on the deck and they take slightly different length belts if you have to replace it.

Also there is a very good diagram of getting the belts aligned in the Woods 59 manuals.

It will cut best with the front of the deck slightly lower than the rear (and sharp blades). The deck attitude and cutting height adjustments can be a lengthy discussion so I won't get into that now. :D

Lo-boy, Scrivet--Thank you very much for the help.I found the right manual and looked at the pulleys in back and everything is working good.I finished putting the belt back on just as the rain started.I guess i can start mowing next week.Rick
