fast hitch flail mower questions

Postby nomad » Tue May 06, 2014 9:12 am

Hi: was fortunate enough to find a Mott fast hitch flail mower this weekend. 3 Questions:

1. Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture based on serial # 1520

2. Here is a picture of the mounting. the fast hitch is all the way to the left. is it ok that the shaft is on an angle and not directly aligned from PTO to mower?

3. There is a wooden plug in the 90 degree gear assembly. Does anyone know what I should be looking for to put in there?

Thanks,

Nomad

you can slide your fast hitch to align the shaft better, you are missing the diag link on the fast hitch, with out it will probably shake apart, the diag link needs to be installed backwards to clear the drive shaft, the chains on the mower are to be secured to where the fast hitch bolts to the finals to keep it from swaying to much and breaking parts, do not know about the wooden plug

Can't help with the serial #. Not even sure you can tell what year it is by using the number.

All my angle drives have open holes in them. The parts book does not show anything for that hole. I doubt the wooden plug is needed
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thanks all:

The mannual said to remove the diag link and hang it on the wall but I agree that it is too shaky--will install backward (lower left to upper right).

I thought I was on the far left with the fast hitch. On the last available hole--is any other way to move that to the left?

Chain sway anchors are in process (should help to stabilize).

I'll take the plug out and see what happens.

Thanks--Nomad

Alex, I'll take "wooden plug in hole to keep leaking seal from dripping on mower" for $200. :D
