What kind of disk harrow is this?

Postby havoc1482 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:14 am

So, I got this when I originally bought my Super A. I used it once, but then a piece of the angle iron broke and I need to weld it. I think its for a Cub, I'm not really sure. Also, anyone know what size the disks are, and where I'd be able to find any? The front driver side set of disks, the one on the edge is completely gone and the second one in is broken. In fact, if I can't replace, can I make due if I just didn't have those disks there?

It broke when I was was playing with it, and its been sitting in that exact spot in the last (above) picture since then.

Can't help you on the model of the disc, and don't know what size they are or were, but as a suggestion, you might consider removing the outside discs off of the front gang. This would give you a slightly narrower disc, but I bet you wouldn't notice much. Another alternative would be to take the outside disc off of the rear gang on the broke side to replace the broken disc on the front gang, effectively giving you a harrow that's one disc narrower than normal.

Looks very serviceable. Wish I had your problem.

That's a Cub 23A tandem disc harrow. I'm not positive about disc size, but all you have to do is measure a blade. Agrisupply more than likely would have some to fit. Or you can post an ad here on the forum. A member may have a parts disc

The disks are likely very worn and brittle from many years of use.

What you're going to run into with new disks is that they will be much larger in diameter than what you have, so you will really need to replace all of them to make the disk work right. When you find out how much that's going to cost, you're going to choke.

should be 14 inch diameter. Check Agri supply about 6.27 each. scallop and smooth scallop would be better

PDF Manuals above show 14" as mentioned and also 16". Haven't measured mine so don't know which it has. I would guess 14, there's plenty of clearance, way more than the needed 1 inch to got up two inches in diameter to 16.

I do know it takes a lot of grease, about 40 pumps on the gun at each of the EIGHT bearings (40x8=320 pumps) when I get it ready for spring use.

About 30 of those pumps squish out in the first 50' ! better off to give it 10 pumps oftener to keep it lubed. Just my 2 cents worth. Dusty B

Got it fixed up, its primed with Rustoleum rusty metal primer. I have IH Red implement spray from Tractor Supply. I'm curious, what color were these things painted from the factory?

Good pictures Havoc, but the light from that welder arc is hard on the CCD receptor of a digital camera just like it is on an unprotected eye.
