**need advise today**

Postby Chris D » Fri Mar 14, 2014 9:21 am

Going to look at a Farmall M this evening. Looks to be in decent shape . It has the M&W hand clutch. Guy say the front end is wore out or loose and needs attention. Also the transmission makes a clicking/clunking sound sorta only when going down hill. Any advise or things to check before I shell out the cash? Also anything else to check on these tractors that are prone to problems? Any and all advise welcome. im looking to just use it here and there and an occassional tractor pull in the antique stock class. Thanks

worn out front end may be as simple as worn gears in the top of the sectors. Clicking , clunking, can come from a number of things. if in all gears, may be differential, if only certain gears, may be a broken tooth or problem with shifter rail. If only 4th or 5th, may be pilot bushing on the coupling shaft inside the transmission.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Whats the asking price? I mean if its reasonable it might be worth it to throw some repair investment in anyways after you get it, if you get it.
