I am wondering if there is a cheaper replacement option for the Cub LoBoy 154. The replacement part is over $30 on ebay. My local TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) can not even order the replacement filter. Is there an auto filter that is interchangeable with the 154? I had the idea of taking the existing dirty filter apart and trying to find a cheaper auto filter to put inside. I have the newer filter type where the air filter top is also the lid for the air filter canister.
Has anyone ever soaked a dirty filter in de greaser solution to clean it out?
I guess I am cheap. But it just "fries my hand" to think a simple air filter is going to cost me $30+ .... any ideas?

Don't know about a replacement. Local auto parts store can obtain the air filter.
I wash out my shop vac air filters with running tap water, then let dry. Washing works pretty good several times, then the filter deforms. I keep new shop vac filters on hand along with the previously used washed filter.
Never tried degreaser. Have blown out a lot of air filters using compressed air.Guy wrote:Has anyone ever soaked a dirty filter in de greaser solution to clean it out?

I have an excuse. CRS.

Looks like 405 716 R1 IHC to S/N 20744 . NAPA is FIL 2965. Wix is 49265. Fram CA30. AC A493C. No where near $30 but still expensive.

Re: Cub LoBoy 154 Air Filter Cheap Replacement
If you go to O'reillys they have filters for the LoBoy. I just bought a 1972 LoBoy and they had the plugs and filters for me. The air filter replacement that matched what I had was a WIX filters 42965
The oil filter is a WIX filter 51153
I can't remember the exact prices, but I want to think the air filter was $17 and the oil filter was $9

That is the correct Wix number, I guess I was a bit dyslexic on my post - $17.99 at O'Reilly's and $17.25 at NAPA.
