More Pix of Farm Life Back Then!
My cousin finally finished scanning over 1,200 slides. He sent me the rest of the farm related ones he could weed out. Thought I would share a few.
Here is another pic of the dealership taken from across the road. Any of you guys who have gone into Harrison during
the Bash have gone down the road. It is now 5 lanes and lined with Mcdonalds, K-Mart, 3 shopping strips and more.
Uncle Paul baling with the old IH baler
Uncle Mike on the wagon and his wife Mary driving the tractor. We think that is my dad picking up the bales. Aunt Mary
was the favorite of all the in-laws. There wasn't a piece of equipment she wasn't afraid of. My sisters liked when she
worked the fields. They said Dad didn't holler at them as much when they screwed up when Aunt Mary was around.
Uncle Mike having fun (oh it was work back then) picking corn.
Uncle Mike unloads one of the many loads of corn he brought in.
How the wagons were lifted.
Uncle Mike chopping corn. I think he had his picture taken more than any of the others.
And of course the silage has to be put in the silo as my Aunt Florine watches. She was the
third youngest of the eight kids and I don't think she got much of a taste of field work.
My cousin said a national magazine would come around now and then just to take photos of Mike at work.
He was always told he was the right guy for the pix they wanted since he was young, strong and good looking.

Great pics, Bill. The trailer lift is very interesting. Was it controlled with a hand winch, or do you know.
We never had one of those. Shoveled all the corn into the elevator with corn shovels.

Roy, the best I can tell looking at the original pic (it has a resolution of 14,399x9,599, yes I said that) is that it used some type of winch.

Re: More Pix of Farm Life Back Then!
You sure brought back some memories there. Both hauling hay, and picking corn, though our baler was a New Holland 77T, and could not make a bale less than 60 pounds, most ran the 80 to 100 pound range. Our corn picker was a one row pull type, that had a side tongue to pull a wagon under the spout.. And then there was the silage chopper. I have pulled a lot of wagons beside it, with a 560 powering the chopper. the wagon driver and the chopper operator had to watch each other and coordinate their throttle changes and shifting. The 560 had a TA, so he had an advantage over me driving the H.

Looking closer at the pic, looks like the shaft that ran the elevator may have had a pulley on it to run the winch. Not sure. Interesting, indeed!

Re: More Pix of Farm Life Back Then!
Here is a little before and after. The old house in the top pic is the one my parents and us kids lived in. We moved after Dad died and my Uncle Paul
moved in for a while. Just before he married, the house was tore down and a new one built. My aunt still lives in the house. As you can see the milk
house is still standing in the background (and is still used to milk the cows). I believe the silo on the right is the one seen in the other pix where the silage is being unloaded.

Thanks for posting these pictures. I lived thru this period yet always learn something new. I didn't realise that IH ever built a left hand feed baler. Keep them coming. Vern

My first thought when I saw the photo was that the slide may have been scanned backward but when I zoomed in on the tractor lettering it was right. I zoomed in on the baler side as best as I could and this is the only thing I could find. I thought it could be an old IH logo, but I may be wrong.

I'm lovin the old pics, Bill, they bring back lots of memories. It looks like it was a nice day for picking corn. I'm thinking that baler is not IH, but I can't make out the logo on the side. Pretty neat pic, either way.

I am wondering about that baler as well as the tractor driver now. I don't recall any of my uncles wearing that style of hat. I believe my grandfather did wear a hat like that but he was killed on the farm in 1941, so I somewhat rule him out.

Re: More Pix of Farm Life Back Then!
A little research shows that New Holland produced a left side feed baler back around that time.
