A vs. Super A

I am looking for a larger tractor than my cub. My main function will be cutting about 2 acres of grass every other week and mowing about 4 acres of pastures once a month. I am also interested in getting cultivators and a drag to revitalize my pastures this coming spring. I am a bit confused on what I can attach to an A or Super A - I see some ads that say they come with a 3 point hitch (see attached photo). Will this hitch fit all the standard 3 point hitches out there? I seem to remember reading someplace that some cub mowers will fit an A but not a Super A. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

A Super A is a good all around tractor, it has hydraulics, quite a few have a fast hitch. A straight A is a so so tractor has no hydraulics , in my opinion not worth much. Almost no cub implements off a cub will work on either tractor.

What Boss said. Look for a Super A, 100, 130, 140. You can get aftermarket three point hitches for them. I prefer the standard hitch, where stuff bolted to the tractor itself, or the IH fast hitch. It depends on what implements you want to use.

I have driven an A with an exhaust lift. IMHO less than worthless. It didn't have any real lift power. Vern

An A is a good little tractor to play around with and tow trailers, but thats about it. (unless you have the hand levers and implements) The Super A is much better, it is no different except it has the Touch Control. I personally consider them like really beefy Cubs. Has the potential to do the same jobs, but has more power. Definitely not a heavy duty tractor tho.

All thanks for the great advice the A and Super A are out of the picture. I do have a line on a 460 diesel I have never owned or worked on anything diesel - any thoughts on them?

Sounds like a lot of overkill for your intended use. Now if you're looking at collecting.....that's another matter. That's a hobby!

I have had a 460 D , I will not have another. Get a Ford 600 or larger with live power , You can get a good one in the $3000 range. It will save you a lot of head aches

Depending on how heavy the tillage you want to do on the pasture, a Super A may not be out of the question. You'll just work slower. I would pass on the 460, too big and bulky. If you want IH look for a 454, 464, 424, 484/584, etc. They are around 40-50 HP.

404/504 utility's that I have will work any were a SA will!---they NOT very big but much more power in a small package and 504 has lpto/some have ta in them and both have great working IH power steering! thanks; sonny

Yep, forgot the 404 and 504. Both are very good.
