2013 Egg Donations

Postby SONNY » Tue Dec 24, 2013 6:48 pm

As of today our egg donations to everyone have reached these figures:

953.5 dozen---------thats 11,442 eggs,----average weight per egg was 1.5 ounces =17,163 ounces = 1,072.69 pounds.

Most of these were taken to our local Home Sweet Home Mission for their kitchen to cook up and serve to the homeless people!
They could have used more than that if we could have produced them!
This was only the egg part of our donations----there were tons of fresh produce taken as well plus we have more potatoes in storage that will have to be taken to them as well!

I about have the coming year planting figured out (the what/the amount to plant/seed/etc.) did get most of the gardens subsoiled 3' deep PLUS getting it moldboard plowed, so ready for spring till!--1 pass and plant! thanks; sonny

We had between 50 to 75 this year and will probably replace them with new chicks in the spring.---it takes about 4 to 5 months before they start to lay, so we keep the older flock until the new ones start laying then get rid of the old ones.

I just obtained a hammermill to grind corn with,---actually 2 mills,---one CASE flat belt drive and one electric Mix-Mill! I like the mix-mill the best because its computer controlled and for 5 hp motor it really eats the corn!--2 and a half tons per hour! LOL!----I can set the blend of the ration to anything needed,--up to 5 different feeds in different amounts thru the DC overload drive box!-----
when it starts up it pulls 60 amps then returns to the run mode of less than 10 Amps---I can set it to safely pull 19 amps, but no need to!---cant dump corn into it that fast!-----eats a 5 gallon bucket in a few seconds!
This mill came from a very large hog farm that went broke and they offered me the mill to help the chicken/egg project! thanks; sonny

Thank you for helping out your community.

Federal Government has a program to harvest and donate food items to community service organizations, such as food kitchens, to help out needy folks. Some institutions will not accept donated food items unless it has been state certified inspected.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks for all you do for the less fortunate. That Mix-Mill is a real step up. :)

Ditto what everyone said Sonny :!: :thanx:

I know this is a 365/24/7 mission you undertake, which makes you, in my opinion the richest person in the world.

Hopefully within the next year, I’ll be going back to my home state where I was working with people doing what you’re doing.

Where I’m at now, the group I’ve been associate with the last two years brings food to the elderly that can’t get out in bad weather, which is five out of the seven days from October to May.

One of my sons is an aircraft pilot for a large US company and they donate an aircraft once a month, he donates his time to help parents commute to see their children in special hospitals’ throughout Canada and the US.
